Wird die Angst eines Menschen übergroß und sein Lebensinhalt nicht nur bedroht sondern ihm auch genommen, dann sieht er oft nur noch einen Ausweg: den selbstgewählten Tod. So erging es Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, der seinem Leben am 15. Juni 1938 auf der Alm oberhalb von Davos mit einem Pistolenschuss ein Ende setzte. Vorher jedoch zerstörte er seine Druckstöcke und einen Großteil seiner Skulpturen aus Angst vor dem Einmarsch deutscher Truppen.
