Rosina Wachtmeister wurde 1939 in Wien geboren. Mit 14 Jahren emigrierte ihre Familie nach Porto Alegre in Brasilien, wo sie die Universität für Bildende Kunst besuchte und ihr Studium mit dem Diplom für Bildhauerei abschloss. Es folgten zunächst erste Ausstellungen mit eigenen Werken im Museo di Arte Moderna in Porto Alegre. Anschließend studierte sie Bühnenbildnerei an der Theaterschule in Salvador Bahia.
