Karl Hagedorn (1922-2005) studierte ab 1956 an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München. 1959 zog er in die USA, wo er 1972 Professor an der Hamline University in St. Paul wurde. Hagedorn, Inhaber zahlreicher Kunstpreise, war schon früh vom Werk Fernand Légers tief beeindruckt.
