Jan Vermeer is one of the most important Dutch painters of the Baroque. The vital statistics of the Dutch genre painter oriented to the baptism on 10.31.1632 in Delft and his funeral there on 12.15.1675. There was at that time in Delft no Malerschule, the son of a Seidenwirkers, art dealer and innkeeper received a technical training. The inclusion in the Delft Guild of St. Luke in 1650 testify to his work as a painter. Today, only 37 paintings from his hand yet known. Thematically, he focused on the genre painting, because in his oeuvre there are few portraits or religious images.
