Diese Fragetechnik nannte er seine Hebammenkunst, seine geistige Geburtshilfe. Durch seine eindringlichen Dialoge, seine Denkweise schuf er sich Freunde, wie die, die später in seinem Sinne Philosophenschulen gründeten, aber auch Feinde, deren Eitelkeit und Karriere er im Wege war.
