Die 1944 geborene Flämin Rosa Gillissen wuchs in einer achtköpfigen Fabrikantenfamilie in Belgien auf. Bereits in jungen Jahren träumte sie von einem künstlerischen Beruf, absolvierte aber zunächst eine Ausbildung zur Textilingenieurin. Eine weitere Ausbildung als Modezeichnerin und Keramikerin an der Abendschule in Korijk weckte die Liebe zu ihrem Hauptmedium – der Keramik. Seit 1994 experimentiert Rosa Gillissen mit verschiedenen Materialien und hat dabei auch zur Bronze gefunden.
