Am Fuß des Ätna befindet sich eines der größten Naturschutzgebiete Italiens. Eine Besonderheit sind die unterschiedlichen Klimazonen: In den unteren Regionen bestimmt eine schöne Kulturlandschaft mit Zitrusfrüchten, Pistazien und Obstbäumen das Bild, über 1100 Meter dann Kastanien und Steineichen, ab 1500 Meter schließlich Buchen und Birken, die bis zur Baumgrenze auf etwa 1900 Meter reichen.

At the foot of Mount Etna is one of the largest conservation areas in Italy. The different zones are a special feature: in the lower regions, a beautiful cultural landscape with citrus fruit, pistachios, and fruit trees determines the image over 1100 metres then chestnut and holm-oaks, 1500 metres finally beech and birch, ranging up to the tree line at about 1900 meters.
