Als er vom Fenster seiner Wohnung am Brandenburger Tor den Fackelaufmarsch anlässlich der Machtergreifung Hitlers sah, soll Liebermann gesagt haben: "Ich kann gar nicht so viel fressen, wie ich kotzen möchte." 1935 verstarb er mit 87 Jahren nach langer Krankheit.
