Germany after the war 1952-1967. Just eight years after the surrender of Nazi Germany, the photographer Josef Heinrich Darchinger began his photographic journey through the West of the divided Germany. The bombs of the second world war had turned the German cities into rubble desert. Signs of the decline of a civilization but hardly find in his paintings. Here, the photographer has embezzled anything. He simply documented what he saw. During this time recruited a New York travel agency with the last opportunity to visit the few remaining debris. In color and black and white, Darchingers pictures the look on a country in the reconstruction fever. The economic upswing was so fast-paced that everybody spoke of the "economic miracle". In contrast to have the people who did it, sober, modest, conscientious and hard-working. But increasingly also as strangers in the world, which they created. The photographs show a land conflict between technical progress and cultural restoration between opulence and poverty, between "German cosiness" and constant threat of the cold war.
