Beim Anblick eines stark gemaserten

Beim Anblick eines stark gemaserten, ausgewaschenen Fußbodens stellten sich bei ihm die ersten spontanen Visionen von Vögeln, Landschaften, Masken und Figuren ein. Max Ernst fixierte diese Visionen in seinen Gemälden. Er schuf Vogelmenschen und Maskenträger, rationale Formenwelten, die ihn in die Reihe der großen Surrealisten stellten.

At the sight of a heavily grained, washed out floor the first spontaneous visions of birds, landscapes, masks and figures were with him. Max Ernst fixed these visions in his paintings. He created birdmen and mask makers, rational forms of worlds, which put him in the line of the great Surrealists.
