Während seines Studiums am sogenannten „Budapester Bauhaus“ war sich Vasarely der geometrischen Formensprache bewusst geworden, die die Bauhausmeister Klee und Kandinsky gelehrt hatten. Nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs faszinierte Vasarely kurze Zeit lang die bildnerische Sprache des Tachismus, schon bald kehrte er aber wieder zurück zur geometrischen Abstraktion.
