Ein alter Mann erscheint und beginnt mit einer freundlichen Begrüßung - er nickt. Zuerst war die Frau sich unsicher doch dann geht sie - in Annahme, dass die Wohnung über ihr leer steht und dass sich unter ihr eine geschlossene Werkstatt befindet - fälschlicherweise davon aus, dass der Mann mit ihr kommunizieren möchte. Sie bewegt leicht den Kopf, nur um seine Reaktion zu testen, und fühlt sich durch sein erneutes Nicken in ihrer falschen Annahme bestätigt. Sie sieht sich weiter seine scherzhaften Bewegungen und Emotionen an und ist völlig vertieft in den Anblick des Mannes. Als der Mann vom Fenster verschwindet, ruft sie die Polizei, doch die Gründe dafür sind unklar. Entweder weil sie Angst hat, dass sich der ältere Mann sich selbst verletzt, weil sie sich belästigt fühlt, sie denkt, dass der Mann verrückt wäre oder einfach wegen Schaulust, wie er von der Polizei abgeführt werden könnte. Sicher ist aber, dass sie endlich eine Sensation erleben könnte. Doch durch diese ganze Aufregung schafft sie es nicht sich klar am Telefon auszudrücken, was wiederum dazu führt, dass die Polizei den Gefährdungsgrad der Situation maßlos überschätzt und ein Überfallkommando schickt. Die Tür des Mannes wird aufgebrochen, denn dieser ist schwerhörig und kann somit nicht was das Klopfen reagieren. Die Frau dringt sofort hinter der Polizei in die Wohnung, was wieder ihre Neugier verdeutlicht. Dann erkennt sie, und auch die Polizei, mit wem der alte Mann immer noch tatsächlich kommunizierte. In der Wohnung über ihr ist ein Junge mit seinen Eltern eingezogen und der Mann hatte sich mit ihm unterhalten - nicht mit der Frau. "Und dann warf es mit aller Kraft den Wachleuten ins Gesicht" (Zeile 112) ist das Lachen des Jungen gegenüber gemeint, das die Menschen in der Wohnung gegenüber total aus der Bahn wirft und sie schockiert. Die Autorin will uns mit dieser Kurgeschichte mitteilen, dass unsere Gesellschaft schon viel zu schaulustig ist. In unserer Gesellschaft ist es so, dass z.B. bei Formel-1 Events extra bei den gefährlichsten Kurven viele Leute sitzen, um einen Unfall zu sehen.
