Der französische Impressionist Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) war ein bekennender Wagner-Fan. So reiste er vor 130 Jahren seinem "Maestro" nach Palermo hinterher, wo er den Komponisten kurz nach der Vollendung des Parsifal porträtieren durfte. Nur eine halbe Stunde Zeit gewährte ihm sein Idol, die Skizzen zu fertigen. Danach, schrieb Renoir, habe Wagner belustigt konstatiert, er würde einem protestantischen Priester ähneln.
