Bernhard Heisig, am 31. März 1925 in Breslau geboren, war eine der großen und prägnanten Persönlichkeiten für die Entwicklung der Kunst in der DDR - einflussreich und unbequem, gefeiert und so eigenständig, dass sein Werk heute einen bedeutsamen Platz in der Kunstgeschichte Deutschlands und der Welt einnimmt. Er gehörte zu den Gründervätern der Leipziger Schule, wo er von 1961-1990 lehrte.
