Vor mehr als 10 Jahren, es war damals noch die Umbruchszeit nach dem Ende der Präsidentschaft Sohartos, herrschte in Indonesien ein völlig andere Athmosphäre. Über Nacht war Indonesien eine jungen Demokratie geworden, überhall herrschte Aufbruchstimmung, alte Strukturen wurden in Frage gestellt, die Türen öffenten sich, mostly everybody was open minded und man schaute in eine vielversprechende Zukunft.
Ein glücklicher Zufall war in dieser Zeit das Zusammentreffen und die Bekanntschaft mit Bapak Indra Jati auf einem Workshop über Erziehung und Schule. Baoak Indra Jati wurde etwa ein Jahr später indonesischer Erziehungsminister und erinnerte sich an diese Diskussion. Er sah Internationale Schulen als Bereicherung für die indonesische Schullandschaft und schuf in der Folge mit der Deutschen Schule und 5 weiteren internationalen Schulen die rechtlichen Voraussetzungen für die Aufnahme indonesischer Schüler

He saw international schools as enrichment for the Indonesian school landscape and created the legal conditions in the German school with 5 other international schools for the inclusion of Indonesian students
