Als das Königshaus Württemberg 1846

Als das Königshaus Württemberg 1846 anlässlich der Vermählung des Kronprinzen Karl mit Großfürstin Olga Nokolajewna zum "Caroussel" nach Stuttgart fuhr, fand erwartungsgemäß weit mehr statt als ein einfaches Reiterturnier. Vielmehr feierte König Wilhelm I. von Württemberg - ein begeisterter Züchter von arabischen Vollblutpferden - in einem prachtvollen Fest die Begegnung von Orient und Okzident, von ritterlicher Herrlichkeit des Mittelalters mit dem Zauber morgenländischer Kultur. Zur Erinnerung an dieses gesellschaftliche Großereignis ließ Wilhelm I. schließlich eigens für die Königsfamilie von Karl Kurtz und Baptist Becker, zwei namhaften zeitgenössischen Künstlern, 28 handkolorierte Lithografien anfertigen.
